What fun and excitement does your clean house bring if you don’t showcase it to your visitors every once in a while, right? Of course, spills and stains go hand in hand whenever you host a party. And sometimes, household supplies and home remedies just won’t cut it. Luckily for you, we’ve got you covered, so there’s nothing to worry about.
In the event of a red wine spillage on your beautiful lounge carpet we would recommend that you call a highly qualified and experienced carpet cleaner, such as ourselves. Wink, wink!
It is important to deal with a red wine stain on your carpets, curtains, upholstery or clothes ASAO because the pigment in wine known as an Anthocyanin, is from the skins of the grapes. Anthocyanins are the root cause of red wine stains, this is because they attach themselves to fibres very easily.
The sooner a red wine stain is dealt with the greater the chances of a 100% removal.
Unfortunately many red wine spillages happen out of normal working hours for most carpet cleaners, therefore we have listed a few steps you can take immediately after the spillage to improve the chances of a perfect result upon calling out a professional carpet cleaner.
Whenever a red wine stains your carpet, it immediately sinks into the fabric and quickly dissipates to the surrounding fibers.
Like all liquids, red wine moves in two directions, outwards and down. Remember that while following these steps:
Do not immediately scrub. Scrubbing the stain sound like a good idea, but in practise this will spread the stain and force the dye deeper into the fabric of your carpet. Blot the stain instead, using a clean (ideally white) cloth. Push down hard on the cloth – we are trying to transfer as much of the dye as possible from the carpet onto our cloth / towel.
Lightly mist spray a solution made up of 1 part white vinegar and 4 part cold water onto the stain and continue to blot the stain.
Once you are satisfied you have removed the vast majority of the staining then place a fresh clean white towel or cloth on the stain and place a flat, heavy object on the towel/cloth. This will continue to draw out more staining from your carpet.
